Ski touring week in wild Montenegro

Ski touring will take place in the northeast and east of Montenegro in the youngest national, but wild and unspoiled park Prokletije. Many first-class ski touring terrains will not leave us indifferent and with full anticipation we will be waiting to stand on the magnificent two - thousanders and cross the borders of Kosovo and Albania freely with skis on our feet.

The Prokletije mountains are part of the National park with the same name, also known as the Albanian Alps or Accursed mountains. They are a mountainous area on the western Balkan Peninsula, stretching from northern Albania to Kosovo and eastern Montenegro. The highest peak is Maja Jezerce (2694 m). They are mighty and inaccessible in winter. That is why this is the last piece of the European ski touring wilderness. The terrains are downright fantastic for ski touring. Not to mention the culture, the friendliness of the locals and the excellent cuisine.

Most tours start at an altitude of 1500 m and go up to 2500 m, and the terrain is such that it allows descents on all sides of the mountain. All tours will be carried out from two starting points, depending on the condition of the snow cover. These are the area of Hajla and the Bogičevica mountain. The main destinations of the touring ski week will be Hajla (2403 m) and Tromeđa (2366 m).

DURATION

DAY 1: Van transportation Slovenia-Montenegro.

On the first day, we will drive from Slovenia via Croatia and Serbia to Montenegro in the early hours and in the late afternoon we will accommodate in the apartment or boarding house in the town Rožaje.

DAY 2: Ascend to Hajla cottage and a shorter tour with presentation of rescuing from avalanches.

We will firstly transport with 4 x 4 vehicles to the Bandžov meadow and from there to the Gropa cottage (1900 m), which lies below Hajla (2403 m). This will be followed by accommodating in a cottage and lunch, and in the afternoon departure for a short tour, where we will also repeat the basics of rescuing from avalanches.

DAY 3 - 4: Ski touring tours in vicinity of Hajla.

The tours will be adapted to snow, avalanche and weather conditions. The tours will last for a period of 5 to 8 hours, where 800 to 1500 altitude meters will be overcome. Depending on the previously mentioned conditions, the tour can also be done by making a double ascent in the same area in the given weather conditions. We will definitely aim for peaks such as Hajla (2403 m), Ahmica (2272 m) and others and cross the border to Kosovo, which lies in the immediate vicinity.

We will be guaranteed full board in the cottage.

DAY 5: Descend to Rožaje, transport to Plav and ascend on Babino polje.

After breakfast we will ski to the Bandžov meadow, where we will be transported to Rožaje. From there we will go with our vehicle to the town of Plav, where we will buy things in the store for the next touring ski destination above Babino polje (1530 m). With 4 x 4 vehicles we will drive from the town of Plav to Babino polje (1530 m) and from there follow the ascent with loading all our luggage to our cottage. We will stay in a private cottage for 10 people (1720 m), which allows you to prepare your own meals and it will be our starting point for the next tours. This will be followed by accommodating in the cottage, dinner and preparations for the next day.

DAY 6 -7: Ski touring tours over the mountain Bogičevica.

The tours will be adapted to snow, avalanche and weather conditions. The tours will last for a period of 5 to 8 hours, where 800 to 1500 altitude meters will be overcome. Depending on the previously mentioned conditions, the tour can also be done by making a double ascent in the same areain the given weather conditions. We will definitely aim for peaks such as Tromeđa (2366 m), Pasji vrh (2372 m) and others, and we will cross the border either to Kosovo or to Albania, which lies in the immediate vicinity.

We will prepare our own meals in the cottage.

DAY 8: Descend to Plav and transport to Rožaje.

Cleaning the cottage, skiing to Babino polje and transport to the town of Plav. Lunch in the city and transport on to Rožaje and lodging in the apartment or boarding house.

DAY 9: Van transport Montenegro - Slovenia.

Return home will begin in the early morning hours. We will return via Serbia and Croatia and Ljubljana to Mojstrana.

Usage of ski touring equipment and an avalanche safety set is mandatory for the tour. If you do not have your own equipment, we will provide it to you for the tour. The avalanche safety set  is included in the price. You can rent a ski touring set at our agency.

The tour is intended for adults and children over the age of 16.
